- Carnival celebrations are continuing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but the trash piles up. The sweepers from the city’s Municipal Urban Cleaning Company went on strike March 1st. They were demanding better working conditions, salaries and overtime payments. About four hundred street sweepers clashed with military officers on that Sunday.
- I like how the street workers rallied together. They all joined for a strike and it was effective. The Company was working on negotiations. This really shows how teamwork can accomplish a lot. This shows that the Brazilian culture is feisty even when it comes to the street sweepers.
- This rally was a good indicator that the culture is bold in what they want. This also shows the rest of the Brazilians that they can fight for what they want. This rally affected a big area of Brazil. The streets were filthy in Rio de Janeiro but the Four hundred workers will beneifit from all of it.
