This article explains how women over the years are catching up to men in the overall alcohol consumption. In Ireland, 67.3% of women and 65.2% of men are admitting to unsafe drinking. Mr. Davoren collected this research along with some of his colleagues to collect reliable data by polling college students. They proved that the gender gap is closing and they believe it is detrimental to the students health.
This was an excellent study. Usually people say women are smarter, but this article proves that they are easily just as guilty in making poor decisions. It's really eye opening that more than half or the students are introduced to the possibilities of adverse consequences. This study showed that some students are drinking every night. Drinking habits like that are scary and can lead to serious problems.
Ireland could be suffering very quickly. With the students drinking more, more are missing classes leading to more kids failing. If Ireland had a lower graduate rate, who will be the doctors? Ireland's leaders are attempting to step in with offering scholarships but I don't think it'll work. I can see how drinking could be a hard activity to try to regulate but they need to make more efforts or the people will all be drunks.
